The idea: Create a phone holder for my iPhone 8 Plus.
Research: Using Apple's website to learn specifications, measuring myself to include the case and PopSocket, and viewing other phone holder images online, I was able to get an idea of my dimensions and design.
Inventor: After building what I thought was going to be my design, I found a few flaws. I went back to the drawing board and eventually came up with the final design I used. I put it all together and ended up really liking how it turned out.
MakerBot Software: I then exported the CAD file to the MakerBot software, set it up and put it on my flash drive.
3D Printer: I then plugged in the flash drive to a printer and about six hours later, I had my phone holder.

Design Sketches
The "Recipe"
For the 3D project, we used Inventor to design a desired object for the list we were given. I chose to make a phone holder, so after careful research and sketches, I started to put it into Inventor. I made several Inventor sketches then extruded those sketches to create my final design. Once my design was complete, I used the MakerBot software to transfer my CAD file onto the 3D printer. Then after about a six hour printing process, my phone stand came out. I must say I really like the result, it works great and looks nice too!

Summary
Throughout the process of creating my phone stand, I learned a lot. The biggest thing I would say that I learned is how much you can do with little space. Since my phone is much bigger than the 5x5x5 inch requirement, I didn't know how I would handle it. However, to my surprise I was able to make a much more efficient design that my phone fit in probably a lot better than it would've if it were a bigger stand. I also have noticed that my Inventor skills have come a long way from where they originally were. I'll admit it was a lot easier to get the hang of than I expected. The last takeaway is simply how amazing 3D printers are. Considering the design didn't take me very long, it is little work to have such a handy item like a phone holder, to me that's awesome.
